Product Description
ChiliPad Cooling and Heating Mattress Pad - Fits TWIN XL size mattresses.Your best night's sleep is a few degrees away! ChiliPad is a mattress pad with a cooling and heating temperature control system. It regulates the surface temperature of your mattress so that you sleep comfortably all night long.Designed to fit all standard and extra thick mattresses, this unique 150 thread count, poly cotton mattress pad uses soft medical grade silicone tubing to circulate regular water through the pad. A built in connection tube (48" in length) connects the pad to the control unit. Dual-zone ChiliPads have separate tubing and independent control units for each side.Control the temperature at the touch of a button either directly on the control unit or conveniently in bed with the wireless remote control. Set the temperature in 1 degree increments from 46 degrees to 118 degrees F. The control unit heats or cools regular water to your set temperature and circulates it through the pad, generally achieving temperatures between 60 degrees to 110 degrees F on the bed surface. A thermostat maintains the set temperature, letting you sleep at your ideal temperature throughout the night.End battles over the thermostat and save money on your energy bill by cooling or heating your bed instead of your entire house! The control unit averages less than 80W of energy use, and dual-zone ChiliPads let you set each side of the bed independently. Fall asleep faster and achieve deeper, restorative sleep longer by controlling your sleep temperature!

Great idea that needs some refinement.
By Mark
I purchased a dual-zone King sized Chilipad about 1 1/2 years ago. Previously I would often waking up sweating at night, even if the room was cool. The Chilipad has helped significantly. I generally sleep cooler, and wake up less.
Unfortunately, this a great idea in need of some further engineering and refinement, and I am not so happy with the quality. After 1 1/2 years of use, here are my observations:
-The pad never quite gets as cool as I would like. After a couple of hours, its noticeably cool. But I wish it would get a bit cooler. Sometimes when the room is too warm, the unit cant keep up and I still wake up hot.
-The lights and controls on the cooling units need to be thought out better. I would be much happier with a simple on/off switch for maximum cooling... without the bright lights and the loud beeping. The lights on the top of the cooling units are extremely bright; I have to place a shoe or something on top of each unit in order to darken the room. The unit beeps quite loudly every time you turn it on or make an adjustment, which is distracting if someone else is already in bed sleeping. To set the unit for cooling, you have to first push the on button, which beeps loudly, then hold down the temp button for a few moments til you get to the lowest temp, and then you can finally set the temp. Its an unnecessarily long and loud process. If the unit is bumped when its running then it shuts down and resets, and you have to go through all the button pushing and beeping again.
-My pad recently developed a leak, which caused a big wet spot to form. I spoke to Becky in their customer service department, and she said that LEAKS are NOT covered under their "2 year warranty". She says that if it develops a leak, even under normal use and during the warranty period, you have to pay $90 for a new pad. So I paid the $90.
-One of my two cooling units recently stopped cooling. It would power on... bright lights, loud beeping and everything... but it would not cool. As a result, one half of the pad would not work. I had to ship the cooling unit back to them for a repair, which was completed promptly and it works fine now.
I hope they re-design this product in the future and fix some of these issues. When its working right, its pretty good. In spite of my frustrations with it, I would probably buy it again. I think it has the potential to be a great item if they come out with a higher quality version.

I have NEVER slept this well!! BEST.PRODUCT.EVER!
By Lucas Miltenberger
Let me start by saying, yes, I understand it's expensive, HOWEVER, in the 2 months I've had it, my heating bill is already lower, and I can see that with winter and summer heating bill savings, it will end up paying for itself.
The temperature control is fantastic!!! If your body heats up at night, the chili-pad will cool you down, and if you cool off, it will heat you up. It will heat or cool to the temperature you set it too, so you stay comfortable all night!
I really LOVE the dual zone. I sleep at 73degrees (winter temperature), and my girlfriend sleeps at 80. We both sleep ALL night in a deep, restful sleep. Both of us can set our own temperature to whatever makes us comfortable.
Review I read before I bought this product talked about the 'noise' made by the fan from the control unit.
After turning both sides on, I could not believe that anyone would complain about it. It's barely even a whisper!! I put the two control units at the foot of my bed, and it sounds like a small fan on in an adjacent room. There is a separate remote for each side, so you don't even have to get out of bet to turn it up, down, off, or set the sleep timer.
They say to use distilled water, and it holds a surprisingly small amount of water. You have to top the water off about every 2 weeks or so.
My dog and cat also sleep on the bed. I was slightly concerned about what their claws could do, but I turns out that the tubing is well protected inside the chili-pad so no worries about the pets!
This product has FAR surpassed my expectations!!! I work nights, so I can't wait to see how cool it keeps me in the summer, while I sleep during the day! I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a better more restful sleep!!!!

Happy Wife
By Keith L. Krenz
Add me to the other men here who have watched their wives get the upper hand on hot flashes, night sweats and the accompanying insomnia from perimenopausal symptoms with this product. I bought it based on these reviews so was compelled to add some information to help other couples who may be in a similar situation make a choice on the purchase. Thank goodness for reviews, I would have been reluctant to drop $450 without them.
Let me start by clarifying a point I was wondering before my purchase - unless both partners need the product and you sleep in a large bed (we have a King), go ahead and purchase the twin. This product is flat - it does not have fitted corners so it is easy to put on top of your existing mattress pad and won't bother the other sleeper. We bought an additional waterproof pad to put on the mattress based on other reviews. So yes...we have the waterproof pad over the mattress, our quilted mattress pad on top of that and the ChiliPad on top of that, followed by the fitted sheet.
You will save a lot of money buying the twin ($449) versus the king ($999). I figured if we experience a leak down the line as some other reviewers mentioned, it will be much easier to swallow the expense of the replacement pad (I understand about 25-30% of the unit cost) than it would be had I bought a king sized system.
It is easy to set up and not terribly loud. You do hear it at first but you get used to it and then it is just background noise that doesn't bother you. We already sleep with my cPap unit running. Suffice it to say we are not bothered by anything else, save for a thunderbolt, do to the background noise we both produce!
This unit helped my wife immediately, similar to other reviewers statements. She has had to dial in on the temp she prefers based upon whether she wants to sleep in shorts/tank versus pajamas but was able to accomplish this in about a week. She used to wake up sweaty with her back "on fire" and even kept a cool tub of water next to the bed to dip her feet in. All of this has gone away. She sleeps more soundly and for longer stretches. When she starts to heat up, she claims the coolness of the pad keeps it in check and she doesn't overheat. The bed doesn't get as hot directly under her due to the pad and there is always coolness around her to shift to.
I would suggest the twin, which is 36" wide versus the single, which is only 28" wide. The difference is about $50 bucks, but the extra 8" of width is worth it and still doesn't impede my side of the bed. We haven't felt a need to buy the additional 4 foot extension hoses as some folks mentioned but I can see the need for it based on bedroom configuration. In any event, you can add that if you feel you need it.
Also, one reviewer mentioned they were in Arizona and it didn't work as well because the unit is only as good as the ambient temp it pulls air from. This is true and if you live in a hot environment and don't have or don't use A/C during hot nights I can see it would be an issue. I am assuming more people have A/C - central or a unit for the bedroom, and use it, particularly if they are already having issues like the ones we are discussing here. We keep our bedroom around 72-74 degrees at night and the unit works great.
I hope this helps with your decision! Can't put a price on a quality nights sleep...or a happy wife :)
